  • Don't just be a Patreon competitor... Be an OnlyFans competitor...
  • Paying $5 let's you Slime another user. A green png of nickelodeon slime is placed on top of their avatar for a few days.
  • Beloved banner ads that are weird and become community memes. These should be for weird small businesses and for 18+ users probably sex toy boutiques lbr
  • Sponsored Vacation Days. Users can donate $400 to sponsor giving their favorite staff member a day off. Said user is celebrated publicly for their generosity and we all thank them for donating a day off.
  • The Money Hole. Users can "purchase" randomly chosen "fortunes" "curses" and "blessings" (written by cohost's writer community) with the statement that the more money you throw into the Money Hole the more powerful the fortune, curse, or blessing will be. This functions as a way for users to make large one time contributions to Cohost while still "making a purchase" so it's not a "donation"
  • If you mail $20 cash to staff you receive a monthly Donation Item which your avatar can wear to look like an anime catgirl
  • It now costs $3 to make a post about computers. The angry tech worker crowd will shell out the bucks to continue complaining about computers.
  • We do not implement comment likes but we do implement paying to put a little trophy on comments which puts them at the top of the comments section.
  • Friends of Eggbug Society. Group that actively organized fundraisers for Cohost like a library Friends group.
  • Users can pay to "win the argument" or "win the discourse." For $15 a green banner appears on a comment in a thread which says "THIS USER HAS WON THE ARGUMENT" and that comment can no longer be replied to, ensuring the winner has the final word.
  • Tumblr lets you pay to give another user crabs. Cohost lets you pay to give another user a yeast infection
  • Multi-Level Marketing

I own a handful of domains and, like many, many devs, migrated them to google domains sometime in the last few years because of their relatively cheap renewal fees, dead simple configuration, and a hands-off approach that didn't overload you with upsell like a lot of other registrars do.

Goodfellas gif -- And now it's all over

>10 million customers' data handed to squarespace for a paltry $180M.
The few domains I use are hooked up to buckets and droplets elsewhere, so I'm not looking for new webspace hosting. I just need a new place to park domains.

Could any cohost techies please recommend a service comparable to what google offered?

I'm mainly interested in an easy config and something that won't hit too hard for transfer fees. I see a lot of discussion elsewhere mention Cloudflare (too fash-friendly for me), Hover, Namecheap and Porkbun (completely unknown to me before now), but wouldn't be opposed to something a little more underground or bespoke or techy or gay or furry -- y'know, cohost-y.

Any input appreciated, thanks in advance

I've gotten so many suggestions and shares and interactions from this post, and it's really driven home why I like this site so much and how much it deserves our support. 😭

All the services I mentioned in the OP got recommendations in the comments or shares, mostly for Namecheap. Someone even spoke up for Cloudflare, which is fine (and like it or not, they've calcified into an important and unavoidable internet backbone), but they've struck out too many times when given the chance to do the right thing w/r/t proliferating hate speech, so they'll never have my monetary support.

Some other suggestions that came in:
Glauca Digital, which I had seen mentioned here long ago and was definitely in the back of my mind as the cohost-y alternative I was looking for. Welsh, antifascist and trans in one package :yeah:
Njalla, which is a service I've used before! They have a strong emphasis on privacy, but the costs involved (prices in EUR, some TLDs are 2x what they cost from a US-based provider) add up over time and aren't conducive to my penny-pinching lifestyle.
Dynadot and iwantmyname each got a mention, and they both have some hosting solutions built in. Dynadot has a drag-and-drop website editor and seems like a less oppressive squarespace, while iwantmyname advertises "one-click plugins" to quickly hook up a new domain name to a service like protonmail, github or tumblr.

So I've got some research and comparisons to do, and I may post a follow-up when I decide on a provider. But until then,

Thanks again for all the input!

E: I've tried my best to get back to everybody who left a comment. If I missed you there or on a share, I'm sorry!
