hi folks! jae here. welcome to the first financial update of 2023! this is a long one with a lot to discuss so strap in. as always, I recommend taking a look at past financial updates for context on terminology and concepts.
first off: where have we been? why has this financial update taken so long to come out?
2023 has been kind of a mess for us thus far. I was unfortunately kind of a non-entity due to health issues (complications from long covid) during the entirety of Q1, meaning that all work I had planned (including revenue-generating work) was automatically delayed. Iâm currently the only one who writes these, which means that if I forget or am unable, it doesnât happen. (weâre working on fixing this part.) I realize this is kind of a non-answer but itâs the truth. I have a bad working memory so sometimes I forget things, like that I need to write the financial update. fellow ADHD-havers will probably understand.
on to the meat!
real talk? the stress jae shares here is very much apparent at home. running this site is truly a labor of love for assc, and for my wife, and i can see that care and passion in how hard it gets sometimes.
things have not been easy lately. at both our jobs, in the state we live, with our pets. weâve been going through a lot. theyâve been going through a lotâeverything you read in these financial updates, i hear about well in advance. i listen to their grief, i try my best to provide counsel, hell iâm even a signatory on cohostâs company ownership paperwork because thatâs how marriage works. this work isnât easy, and the toll it takes can be hard to bear.
i believe in what theyâre doingâjae and all of assc. the people who make this silly website are some of my closest friends in the whole world. colin and i are metamours and long term mutuals, kaara and i worked together for nearly half a decade.
behind the glass slab youâre reading this on right now these are people. precious, wonderful people who are struggling their asses off to make something they believe is important in spite of everything. people who are disabled, who are queer, who are in vulnerable situations, and who care a lot about what they do and the people they serve. people who have families that fight to support them, families like me.
please be kind to them. and also, buy cohost plus, it helps pay my rent. thanks.
