So, you have a Yamaha CS70m, with sliders in it. You want to convert the sliders to a value from 0...31 (so 32 steps; 2^5). You... don't want an ADC in the loop. What do you do?

I mean, technically speaking there's tons of Gray codes in the wild. Most encoders use them for error-correction (trivial from my ill-begotten math degree.)
You just don't usually expect to see a 5-bit linear encoder in the wild...
