the thing about "unalive" for me is that it's not even that it's a euphemism for "kill," it's that it's a really fucking dumb euphemism for kill. people have been using euphemisms for killing for ages. there's a whole library of words out there. ace/ice, wax, put down, take out. and somehow unalive got popular???

i think "unalive" initially became popular because it was absurd.
Using it was a kind of passive-aggressive form of compliance with restrictive content or monetization policies on social media sites. Like, "yeah, i'll follow the rules, but i'm making it clear they're silly by using this clunky euphemism." (Maybe it was a deliberate reference to george orwell's "newspeak" at some point?)

i do not know what percentage of current "unalive" users are using it ironically vs. unironically, though.
