this is kind of a soft bandcamp friday post, although it's just some new stuff i've taken note of rather than anything comprehensive. first up:
dave lombardo, drummer for slayer, put out a solo percussion album on ipecac records today. apparently he had been given the idea to do this by mike patton (!) as early as 1998 (!!) who introduced him to tito puente's top percussion, an influential 50s latin jazz album, as inspiration (!!!). anyway i can't say i listen to much modern percussion ensemble stuff (even though i've played in them...) but this album is a lot of fun.
i randomly thought the other day that it was probably time to hear from dalek again. and what do you know, they had another new album last year to lay down the truth. fun fact: this is the second loudest band i've ever seen live. only Sunn O))) was louder, and nobody is really louder than that.
