Posted Aug 1, from the description:
A Boom compatible 6 maps journey through the valley of the Kings.
Each map can be completed in 5-10 minutes (except Map 05 which is approximately 15 minutes long).
Charged with a perilous quest, Doomguy must journey into the forbidding Valley of the Kings.
There, among treacherous tombs and malevolent forces, he seeks the elusive relic—the Ankh of Eternity.
Armed with its ancient power, he will confront the last Hell's portal, sealing it for eternity or succumbing to the malevolent abyss.
I wanted to start a new series of posts highlighting recently posted Doom wads that I thought looked really cool. Starting this off with the newly released Sekhemti, by Shawn. I am not familiar with this author, but they seem to be quite talented, as this is a delicious little Ancient Egyptian themed mapset for Boom.
Definitely take some time today to check it out, if you can! If you like it, pop on over to the Doomworld thread and leave the author some love. Hope to see more from this author.
i don't know what it is about egypt themes and first person shooters that feels so good. i want to say it's due to serious sam but there are definitely several examples before that, e.g. pharaoh from tnt. and a lot of effort went in to detailing the lighting and the shape of the sectors to sell the effect here. one of my favorite elements was the retouched monster sprites; from the credits it's not clear who made them but they are used to great effect when...
(spoilers)
there are a couple completely dark room that are lit only by the presence of monsters. it's a very cool effect without being too disorienting.the combat in the first two or so levels is pretty plain, and could pass for something in a doom e1 map. but it ramps up significantly in the last two levels; the fifth level has some big fights and tricky routing decisions, and the last one requires racing back and forth across a narrow path over lava as monster spawners fill the area. that lava seemed inescapable - probably an anti-cheese mechanism but it's a little unforgiving.
this has a final release on idgames now: https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/s-u/sekhemti
