just found out my old work that i left partly because nobody wanted to do things like "name variables sensibly" and "not write functions with 15 parameters" has just mandated a new tool which adds popups to their IDEs that tell them to do things like "name variables sensibly" and "not write functions with 15 parameters" and everybody is like "why weren't we doing this before??"

i didn't think that place could make me mad any more but they found a way

Many years ago, I kept threatening to have fake industry magazines that just pitched my ideas, but on glossy paper, and dropped them off where my managers shopped...

For the young'uns reading, a "magazine" was sort of like a website, except that you had to go to the store to buy a copy, and subscribing to the RSS feed meant that you'd have to figure out what to do with a cubic meter of glossy paper every few months...
