And also, like. Key art is the first thing the player sees, is the most generic AI key art really the first impression you want players to have?
Amateur here, what exactly is key art? Cover art, trailer art, that sort of thing?
At any rate, yeah, going with AI art at all is just a terrible idea. Especially when there’s likely a ton of artists out there who would want to work on those games!
key art is an asset that's intended to be used repeatedly, front presentingly, and importantly. baldur's gate 3 has that render of astarion holding the knife they use for the title screen and everything else, for instance.
AI art really feels like the natural conclusion of all the static I got from clients when I still did commissions. Like all art exists just as "A picture that looks cool" to them and even the actual contents of the image don't matter.
I'm deeply curious what's going to happen to some of these people once all the image generators start charging.
