There's a ton of "lost media" I'd like to be found (though really just early versions of games) but my personal bizarre white whale of forgotten, cancelled projects is 天輪のグネーヴァル、 Tenrin no Guernival.
Weirdly, the official website's still up, even though the game was cancelled a long time ago. What is it, you ask? Well, it's an STG. But not just any STG, it's a dudes-only STG from a branch of Mada Koubou, the company that made the revolutionary BL game Hadaka Shitsuji.
(See, When it came out, Hadaka Shitsuji caused quite a stir because, for BL games at the time (and even still) its sexual content was extremely explicit and very bizarre. Basically, male ero-fans were seeing screenshots and going "huh, maybe those fujos are just as pervy as we are!")
So, the idea of the weird brains behind Naked Butlers making a BL STG (which, I should joke, is what Ketsui was jokingly called for years) is something I find utterly fascinating. Like, how bonkers would this have possibly gotten, both in terms of being an STG and being a BL game? There are a fair few ero-STG that exist, but none targeting a female audience specifically, and especially none targeting the sickos.jpg fujos that Hadaka Shitsuji so expertly courted.
If I had to guess why this got cancelled... well, that concept seems like a hard sell, doesn't it? I mean, yeah, Ketsui did attract some fujoshi but they hardly carried it. Also, the screens and movies (I swear a few existed at one time, I can't find them now) of the STG part looked... well, like it needed a lot of work.
So yeah, I 100% understand why this game doesn't exist, and it probably wouldn't have been a very good STG if it did release, but I wanted this to exist simply on principle, y'know?
