girl who loves mecha, toku and fighting games!! also big fan of animation. nice to meet you all!

based on a convo i had yesterday, i usually am very pro watching the actual show over the movies, but i feel 0079 is an exception bc of how they were concieved and how 0079 itself is percieved
like i feel getting mad over people only watching the movies or the show is kinda pointless. both have huge pacing issues and the strained development is noticeable in both. they are also both undeniably 0079. it depends on what the viewer prefers personally
i also think the notion of a "genuine 0079 experience" is by itself pretty fake, considering discussion about the work and what people remember from it was already incredibly distanced from it by the early 80s lol. it's not about 0079 itself anymore but about the pop culture depiction of it. about what fans made of the (honestly p. bare, character writing wise) skeleton it gave them
tomino also did plan for the movies to be an improved version of 0079, whether he succeeded or not is depending on the viewer, but this gives them a different intention than most compilation films
it is also very interesting how even the show's most fervent defenders like...barely, if never, talk about the parts of it that weren't in the movies anyways as i said the other day lol
it kinda shows how it's less about the actual work and more about the pop culture idea of it
like this is the one time where i'm like idk it's fine. if people watch the movies and end up liking/hating the work, it's def bc of 0079's qualities over anything else. vice versa too
