I think last time I talked to misty about this she mentioned the first step is getting your books ISBNs!
that part is done! just got my letter saying "your books are in! however no library has them so you get zero dollars this year"
just based on a cursory search of a couple library sites up north, it looks like most of them have a “suggest a title” page for their site!
also look into conventions— i’m sure there has to be an equivalent to this https://2023.alaannual.org/
My American librarian friend had this to say: "The sad answer is that it is really difficult because of capitalism and because chuds but this would be a really good resource for them https://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/about-the-library/business-with-the-library/self-published-authors.jsp But if you can get your book into Baker and Taylor or Ingram (which are two wholesale publishers) it gets MUCH easier. Basically libraries have big contracts with publishers like that who will not only collect and ship books from a variety of publishers but will also add spine labels, bar codes, database records, and everything else. And then our selector can just say "give me 10 please" and we can buy them. We definitely want works by new authors, especially if they are local, but its just super hard to purchase stuff outside of these big contracts"
