28 days, 28 reasons
To get a new face, to change with the seasons
Even though the sparkle may one day fade
Lost among the whispers of choices made
But blood still flows in the coldest heart
Once the darkest days have played their part
A thawing river will run anew
Like the melting ice, it changes too
Familiar selves can swell with pride
When circled from the other side
Binary domiciles of old
Turned upside down and wrapped in gold
If past and future, hand in hand
Are one spot on a wheel that turns
Then I will stop and turn and stand
And I will meet them on my terms
A sunlit scene, a paradise
A sunset seen through tired eyes
A ship, a spade, an empty glade
The last spot on a hit parade
A burnt-out star, a last ride home
A washed out face on rusted chrome
A pair of wings, a lifelong wait
A curtain drawn—but not too late
If I could go back and start anew
The same old sights in a different hue
But too far back is a scary place
When lessons learned hadn’t shown their face
Push the past and watch as it crashes
Burn what’s left and rise from the ashes
When all’s said and done, draw a line through it
There’s no turning back—the sky’s the limit
And if the story isn’t all roses
With words unsaid louder than the prose is
If the past digs in like the roots of a tree
And no forward momentum can let you be free
If a ghost haunts you too often
Turn all the lights up till it fades
Shove it in a coffin
And bring out the nails
