and I had a really good time! (read: I hyperfixated on it for a solid week and now I'm finally free)
my thoughts, no spoilers:
- "what if fire emblem was also ogre battle" works REALLY WELL, turns out
- I appreciate that the game lets me field a ton of squads and experiment with them
- mechanically super fun, what a good time
- I got away with a lot of cheesy squad concepts >:3
- I like the non-combat stuff a lot! tech tree was a fun concept, so was the market
- the overall story is interesting and goes in sometimes unexpected places, which I appreciate!
- the actual writing is kinda disappointing and punches way above its weight in a bunch of unfortunate places! it falls flat a lot of the time and it's a shame because some of the characters really grew on me
- the art gets so horny oh my god
- no but like FOR REAL, the character designs were good already, there was no need to go this hard into making every lady ridiculously voluptuous to the point of objectification; it left a bad taste in my mouth and really soured some of the goodwill the game had built up prior to that point
all in all though, I had a lot of fun playing it! I'm glad I can move on to other games now, but I'll be keeping an eye on the next game this developer makes. that said, I really do hope they get like... some editing/narrative help for the next one. I wanna enjoy my giant women too, you know? <3
my bonus thoughts, now with spoilers™:
click for spoilery thoughts
- why did they make her butt so big oh my god
- I should've been able to marry the catboy >:c
- the whole Kingdom of Sayunaa arc feels really narratively mishandled
- as evenly-paced as most of the game felt, the final fight was really short? I guess the game wasn't prepared for my Cheesy Squads™
- the endings are super funny because it's hilarious that your choices boil down to either "have a classic uplifting Fire Emblemy where-are-they-now epilogue" or "not only did you mess up, but we're gonna spend a good ten minutes detailing how much it sucked for everyone you ever knew"
- it's just... it's just so big...
