the following text contains spoilers for the plot of talos principle 2

review of talos principle 2 the game side: super pretty, perfectly serviceable puzzles, it's easier to solve a puzzle properly now so you don't have to cheese pieces off the levels ALL the time unless you really want to

review of talos principle 2 the story side:

well first of all i think jonas kyratzes is one of the best writers in videogames

and if a game has enough in it to make me disagree in a purely ideational level that's a proof of solidity and Inviting To Debate and all that jazz inside my trazz

BUT but but but but but

the writers kinda implied the game would be "asking questions about society as a whole"

and this is definitely what is not being done in this game

well unless you count as a question like, "we made this little toy city with a thousand people, should we maybe consider doing another city or should we stop right here"

and even that question is immediately answered

when these metal dudes are immediately granted the keys to infinitely renewable energy and the power to do anything forever

and the question becomes

should we become cool space robots or should we respect birds

and if you listen to any audio logs they're like "look at birds. look at those little fuckers. so self assured. i hate them. I HATE THEM. I FUCKING HATE BIR

My opinions are roughly similar.

I started writing a short rant about the game last night, that become a long ramble on my blog.

I think perhaps the game's biggest sin is that having made put the opinions of its ideological enemies into the mouths of ridiculous caricature straw-men in game. It still has the nerve to try and tell us that it believes these people are redeemable.

That and the puzzles become a chore towards the end.
