ok imagine you have tears of the kingdom

a game where you acquire a set of core abilities and use them to navigate a reasonably open world in any way you see fit

and you can reach the ending that way

but remember the Old Maps? the maps that were scattered around the sky islands and provided nothing but a pointer to another chest which had a part of the amiibo link suits?

maybe you've found three or four of these maps across the game and you're interested in what they unlock

well good luck because in this hypothetical tears of the kingdom they're much more involved

you can't just go straight to the chest. the old map has some kind of password you need to input into the chest

and the chests are just buried in the most random places in the game. sometimes the only clue you will have is a slight discoloration in an area you've passed ten hours ago

and guess what. you need to acquire every. single. old map and accompaining chest to get the additional ending cutscene where zelda gives link a little peck on the cheek
