I haven't had exactly this experience but the non-smut version is having several friends/acquaintances who you know purely because you have the same niche fursona species.

"Baa!"
At one point there was only two porcupines active in vore circles and we're friends. There is now a third but I don't know them well and haven't seen them in a while.
