in the vein of "metroidvania" or "soulsbourne", defined by the following genre conventions
- you can only play it once
- if it's spoiled, the game is ruined
- the only way to re-experience it is by proxy, so PLEASE play it bro, you HAVE to play it and let me watch, i do so much for you and ask so little in return i am BEGGING you bro, please please PLEASE, if you hate it i will PERSONALLY refund you, but you won't, you'll love it, please bro, PLEA
Ah yes. The genre of game where if you're not seeing what the big deal is right away you spend the next several years feeling like you just want someone to tell you what you're missing but no one is willing to say anything because of fear of spoilers and it sours your whole experience with the game because you're feeling almost gaslit for not having a mind-bending revelatory experience while playing.
this post brought to you by my desperate attempts to understand what the big deal about outer wilds is when my two attempts to play it so far have left me feeling like it's just a mechanically interesting but otherwise just good adventure game.
