I was reminded recently that Digimon is a set of shows that exist and that I haven't watched the newer ones (post Savers/Data Squad). And then musing on the all-important 3 roles that all Digimon anime protagonist squads fulfil: flawed hero, bad boy, and girl. Some seasons have more than that (Adventure, for one), but all of them have at least those three. Some even double up, like Frontier having two bad boys in Kouji and his brother.

But what about Tamers, you ask? There's no boys in that season that really fit the bill! I propose to you: Rika is the bad boy. She fits all the boxes except gender, which honestly doesn't matter as much as you would think. Who is "girl", then? Henry. Not as much character development as the others, no real arc, generally gets left out of the action.

This was all brought on by seeing one of the characters in Xros Wars/Fusion with blond hair wearing blue. Classic Digimon bad boy aesthetic. You can't hide it from me! I haven't even watched it yet and I can already tell he's going to fight with the red guy for a few seasons before becoming best friends and teaming up to take on whatever the evil of the series is.
