I assume that at this rate, sometime this decade a vendor will start selling switches that each have a little speaker in them to make them sound different

other ideas:

  • haptic feedback instead of mechanical feedback
  • electro magnetic "springs" so you can adjust how heavy switches are on the fly
  • tiny little bell at the bottom so it rings when you bottom out
  • mineral oil submerged keyboard

Other idea, a rotating dial that is plays a slide whistle as you rotate it.

Today on, random thing I've been obsessed with, mechanical keyboards! It's a G.Skill KM360. This was my first board I purchased, and I used it stock for several years. I've since replaced it with a Glorious GMMK2. A while back, I decided to mod it and improve it for use at my desk at work. So, figured I'd share.

Specs and Mod info

  • Ten Keyless
  • Cherry MX Reds
  • North-Facing white LEDs
  • lubed very lazily with Super Lube synthetic oil. Don't own the tools to desolder
  • Lubed stabilizers with 205g0
  • Foam in case
  • cheap "Shoko PBT Dye sub key caps" from Amazon.

For my first venture with modding a keyboard, I'm really satisfied. The sound is a lot quieter and softer due to the lube and foam. Making it more comfy to use in the shared office space at work. Plus, the key caps are decent for their quality and look. They aren't shine through, but since the board has one color, it's no big deal. I like keeping things cheap and improving them. So, I didn't go crazy with anything super high end. So for a $50 keyboard that is going on 6 years old. This is a pretty great improvement, IMO!

I've barely scratched the surface of mechanical keyboards, but I'm having fun tinkering with them! It's a lot of fun building something you enjoy and being able to customize all the aspects of to your liking. Maybe I'll share my other boards later :3
