I'm thinking about how "dead dove don't eat" initially meant "You were warned of what to expect and you cannot complain that you are shocked if you look into it further" but it devolved into people just using it by itself without actually including the warning that they are telling you to heed. Like, "Warning. Expect something. What specifically? I'm not saying. But expect it."

its so annoying, i see it on fics sometimes and then i glance at the other tags cause, oh something should be in here that i should really pay attention to and then there's nothing! all it makes me want to do is not read the fic at all. proper tagging makes all the difference...

I can follow the dots to understand how the drift happened, but it really is a shame. A way of saying "I am not downplaying or joking about what this is, read the tin, that is what this is and tromping over to complain after is going to get you laughed at" is valuable and useful! "There is bad things in here" is somewhat less so.
