you can really tell when someone was raised on irc vs other forms of talking to people on the Internet because the irc ones can carry on like five separate conversations in a group chat much to everyone else' chagrin
i genuinely think my teenage irc years made me better at multitasking
It's one of those skills I don't use on discord too much because other people get confused by it
I have done this in real life. Responded to one person in one conversation and then to another person in another conversation that was happening in parallel.
The circumstances in which I can do it are rare (requiring both physical proximity to two conversations I have something to add to, and low enough noise that I can hear them without both getting drowned out or canceling out), but I've done it multiple times and it has been known to freak people out.
Turns out people don't expect one person to be in multiple conversations IRL.
(It's unlikely that I will get to pull this party trick again, since it tended to be an indoor thing and indoor parties are kind of in the past for me)
