what is the deal with dragon hoards anyway? Like... it's not like they can spend those gold coins. And more to the point: if all your gold is going to get nicked by dragons anyway, why use it as currency? Why dig it up? Why put it anywhere an overhead dragon might see it?
The inevitable conclusion is that the dragons do not value gold coins as physical artifacts. They value them because people value them. They have it because having it means that others do not.
In this way I suppose they're a lot like billionaires.
