It seems the era of mp3 player managers has passed out of human memory.

I have loads of music, a good chunk of it is flac or (due to youthful enthusiasm) ogg vorbis. I’d love to get this into Apple Music (for the HomePod) and mp3 (for the mp3 player) but I can’t seem to find something that’ll transcode for USB mass storage and keep track of what is and isn’t on there so I can work in terms of dragging and dropping albums, not comparing directories. Anyone got any experience?

Also I really want a fiio player. Look at that absurd shit. Do I need a combo Bluetooth receiver / personal music player / android device / airplay receiver / usb DAC? Absolutely not. Do I want one? Heck yes. Let’s just get a stupid gadget that won’t blink at my full collection!

Oh I don’t mind the formats, it’s just that I have several and that requires either a compatible player or a sensible way to transcode things. I’m definitely standardising on FLAC though, storage is cheap and I regret having so much of my shit in what now counts as low bitrates

hmm i've been having mild worries along these lines recently.

being storage-conscious i always favor(ed) MP3 V2, which has often been described as basically transparent. and i'm fairly use i can't tell the difference between it and 320 / FLAC in most cases. but the doubt's been eating at me lately

(also i have this weird sunk cost fallacy going on where it feels Wrong to now start acquiring at a higher bitrate... lol)
