i remain convinced that usenet was probably just reddit but smaller

Well, haven't been on social media for a bit, so here goes nothing. Passionate, polyamorous, non-binary, neo-taíno + 20th century sephardic heritage critter, with Southern roots and Opinions about activism and justice. I don't know what to make of myself any more, so I'll leave it to you. The headmates might also show up occasionally. Don't worry, they're nice.

i remain convinced that usenet was probably just reddit but smaller
pretty much, and also your feed provider could decide which subreddits you could or couldn't read
It even had the same nazi problem, though in usenet's case it was because a terrorist cell spent their ill-gotten grant money buying computers and networking equipment instead of guns and explosives.
no way. lmao
i need to hear more about this. how did terrorists get a grant
well by "grant" I mean armored car robberies that got distributed to a network of cells across North America.

This article doesn't go super into the connection this group has with the cell I mentioned but that cell was run by the guy who would go on to found Stormfront. He was also part of a failed white supremacist attempt to invade Dominica.
Anyway the tactics commonly used by online far-right hate groups we're familiar with today were developed back in that time, and arguably is the most successful and lasting endeavor by that org.
daaaang
also ws's long history of thinking they can just barge like 12 dudes into a country and overpower it is the funniest example of high on their own farts i can think of. i assume you're aware of the filibuster campaigns as well lol
