not that anyone asked but there's a lot of thematic depth in dragon ball. like i think of how piccolo decides not to live for his father's grudge any more and yet is defined by an uneasy truce between his past and his desires. i would dare say that's very japanese. in the androids this idea develops into a whole family conflict. maybe the storytelling rarely backs these things up because it wasn't what toriyama was focused on, but you can definitely pick stuff out (and dare i say his brain) from what's in the material
