it feels like a lot of the TTRPG Ruleset Discourse is less about enriching anybody's understanding of games, and more about trying to provoke a new round of Culture War Capture The Flag in the TTRPG space. or people setting out to do the former, and doing the latter because of the way modern platforms push us towards the hot take, the provocation, the throwing down of a gauntlet as the default format of sharing ideas. battle lines are drawn over relitigated Media Studies 101 shit like this, and in the current ecosystem (happy 10th anniversary, gamergate) they usually coincide with lines of politicized identity.
