Patreon's choice of ID Verification Vendor has been a trouble spot for me. The choice of ID Verification is being predominately handled by a Venture Capital start-up firm known as Jumio, which features "3D Face Scan technology". The firm, it's partner Binance, and the technology in question already has a lawsuit leveled against it by the U.S. Federal Government for violation of privacy laws in the state of Illinois. In addition, an artist on Inkbunny recently alerted their watchers via a journal post about Patreon staff making use of some kind of external-reference system to identify non-site content that violates their TOS as reason to deplatform someone from Patreon. Nearest I can tell from recollection, this is not in the TOS, unlike Ko-Fi which I believe states it bluntly. As you might imagine, I've decided that I will end use of Patreon's platform for crowdfunding at the end of this month. It's been about 3 years since the re-launch, shame to see it go.
A copy of this post will be hosted on my Cohost, for future reference, as anything on Patreon will soon be deleted or inaccessible. If you are a former or current backer, please email me for anything you need, including Discord contact information. I am going to tally up all of the backlogged rewards from 2023 and post an update by Friday, August 25th. This will include all past and present backers, and will be posted publicly onto my Furaffinity and Cohost (listing only screennames/aliases or First Name Initial, Last Name Initial), so that folks may keep track of their rewards. The backlog as-is can be accessed here.
The old system of slotted character counts will be updated to instead account for time spent to maintain consistency. EG, that means 30 minutes of clock time to fill out rewards per month of Interloper rewards, 1 hour of clock time to fill out rewards per month of Denizen rewards.
